Caffè Brasserie Filippini

In Verona aperitif means “Filippini”, and "Caffè Brasserie Filippini" means Piazza Erbe. The most antique square in Verona, the Roman forum, the heart of the city.

For centuries Piaza Erbe was the center of the economy and politics. Caffè Brasserie Filippini is situated exactly on front of the "Fountain of the Madonna Verona", founded by Cansignorio in 1368. However the entire square is framed in by precious buildings that make up the story of Verona: the "Domus Mercatorum", built in 1301 by Alberto Della Scala, Palazzo Maffei an impressive structure from the second have of 1600, the cinquecentesche "Case dei Mazzanti", which was enriched with painted by Alberto Cavalli in the first half of 1500. Then still the “Gardello Tower” of 1370. Standing out above the square is “Lamberti Tower”, the highest building on Verona, construction started in 1172 and was completed almost three centuries later.

A short distance from the Balcony of Juliet, hence at the center of the Verona of Capuletu and Montecchi rendered immortal by Shakespeare, from 1901 the tradition of aperitif and of coffee is at "Filippini". For more than 100 years "Caffè Brasserie Filippini" is the testimony of the storic events and society of the city. It’s a privileged stop and a point of reference of Verona and of Verona’s changes. Here you find the Verona that counts, the Verona of the economic world and that of the cultural world, here the ritual of “chit chatting” becomes an occasion for comparisons, exchange of ideas, the birth of projects. Here during the long summer evenings one lives the joy of expectation before the grand lyrical events in the Arena of of prose at the Roman theatre and then those after the show.

The environment is refined, elegant, classic and original at the same time. Ideal for an aperitif, a coffee, a romantic dinner or a business lunch. There are two rooms on the ground level, one for the Café and the other for the restaurant. Antique mirrors reflect and multiply the images of the local life. The most demanding, those that are looking for an exclusive and suggestive environment for a lunch or dinner of maximum reserve, find in the upper dining room a dream.

Not to forget the magic of the tables in the square, a square full of life and colours as only some of the best squares of Italy know to be, with some of the most beautiful buildings of the city to frame it in. That is why a stop at Caffè Brasserie Filippini is an occasion not to miss. An emotion that renews itself everyday since 1901.
